An accessible alternative to the Pilates equipment

No need for expensive equipment - the Mat-work is an all-in-one workout that can be offered without the expense required in purchasing Reformers, Trap tables and the like. It requires less space in a clinic than the Pilates equipment and can easily be given as homework.

We understand there are many certifications out there to pick from, why choose Classical Pilates?

Classical Pilates adheres to the original methodology and sequence developed by Joseph Pilates and provides a disciplined and systematic approach that is deeply rooted in the fundamental principles of the practice - control, concentration, precision, breath, and flow.

This traditional form can greatly complement and enhance your current offerings. By learning Classical Pilates, you are taking a purist approach that emphasises the importance of each movement and its purpose, leading to a deeper understanding of body mechanics and core strength. This is particularly beneficial in enhancing the effectiveness of your client’s recovery, ensuring a balanced and comprehensive approach to client training.

I’m Kim Paxton, founder of The Pilates Studio Teacher Training and owner of The Pilates Studio Blackwood

My background in Pilates started in Canada in 2007 where I became certified in Contemporary Pilates. I loved teaching clients the contemporary method, but it was in 2008 when I attended a PMA conference in the US that I was exposed to, and fell in love with the Classical Method.

Everything I was teaching started to make more sense, I gained the ability to methodically advance my clients and create a way of describing movement using the Classical principles that helped my clients to truly understand the Pilates method. The results I have seen from this understanding have been life-changing for my clients.

Over the past 14 or so years, I have sought out training around the world to further my skills and have trained extensively with several different Classical Pilates schools, which has given me a well rounded approach to the Classical Method.

In 2015 I opened The Pilates Studio Blackwood, the only dedicated Classical Pilates studio in South Australia. I have developed The Pilates Studio Teacher Training, which offers 3 programs: Classical Curious, Classical Mat and Classical Comprehensive. I look forward to mentoring you in the power and beauty of the Classical Method.

Hear what Jane has to say about learning to teach the Classical Method…

“I enjoy seeing the clients developing … and they start to get it and that joy that lights them up, I get a real kick out of that … You see them improving, feeling it in their bodies and feeling stronger and feeling better about life. It’s almost a high, I love that part of it”
